Stepping into the world of hide tanning is a transformative experience.  This craft is a deeply ancient, nourishing skill that is in each of our cellular memories. Together over three days we will work fresh animal skins into homemade textiles, and each participants goes home with your own creation.
Sheepskins are sourced from sustainable small farms. They soak in a mineral solution prior to class and are ready to go.
Here are the details on what you need to know for the weekend:
Saanich Peninsula (exact address TBA for participants).
Friday: Scraping + Framing
Saturday: Softening
Sunday: Softening + Oiling + Grooming
10:00am-4:00pm each day.  Final day ends early.

We will be working outdoors spaced 6ft apart.  When going in and out of the workshop building, we will wear masks.
Each person will confirm that they have not been sick, near a sick person, or have travelled internationally prior to the workshop.

Please wear comfortable outdoor work attire and dress for the weather.

Bringing a personal knife (such as a Mora brand knife) is helpful to trim the sheepskin you will work on.

I will be providing all the tools needed as well as aprons for the outdoor work.
Each person provides their own midday meal and a water bottle to stay well-nourished and hydrated.
