Calx (lime) for bucking hides
Calcium hydroxide is a gentle alkaline used to ‘buck’ hides for wet-scraping the hair and/or grain away.
This is 2 lbs of Calx, also known as hydrated lime.
Directions to buck a hide:
Submerge a hide in water for 12-24 hours.
Mix the contents of your Calx bag with 2-4 cups water until dissolved; rub onto the skin side of a hide.
Place hide back in up to 10 gallons of fresh water.
Let sit for 7-12 days to buck.
